WordPress vs. Blogger, Which One Is Better?

Vs.

I’ve been meaning to write a post about this in the past few months but I just didn’t get the time. But now I’m in the blogging mood so heck!

So what’s the difference between Blogger and WordPress? Which one is better suited for YOUR needs?

Lets take a look:

  • Blogger lets you use Adsense Ads. WordPress does NOT! unless you have it installed on your own web host.
  • Blogger lets you edit your CSS for FREE!!!
  • WordPress gives you a great about of detailed stats on your blog.
  • WordPress lets you create pages, like a CMS(Content Management System).
  • Text editing is less buggy in WordPress, Blogger takes a crap every time you edit stuff in HTML mode.
  • You can add some groovy plugins for WordPress(Only if you have it installed on your own host).
  • You can create categories in WordPress!
  • There’s a larger verity of themes in WordPress.
  • Both Blogging software lets offers a large amount of Widgets…
WordPress is better for serious blogging, it’s also more powerful. Blogger is cute and fun to use. I use both because I like to keep balanced.
Hope this helps!

  1. You said it : “WordPress is better for serious blogging, it’s also more powerful. Blogger is cute and fun to use. I use both because I like to keep balanced” Ha ha ha :)

  2. Hello Clinton,
    Good summary of the differences.
When I started….4-5 months back…I just did trial and error with a bunch. And yeh, wordpress seems more professional, and journalistic. Guess each has its own strength depending on purpose. For me, out of all the stuff like blogger, myspace, facebook, etc….I only use wordpress consistently.

I like the fact that it is not noisy, the focus is on the writing, and less distracting.

Those are just my views. However, do you find some of the other applications handy for networking, marketing,….

  3. Hey Clinton,
I just have another question…how were you able to put on the neat icons of blogger vs wordpress and the symbols….

And when I hover over it…it hyperlinks and expands in bubble to something….

    That is neat….

    Thanks,
    Patrick

  4. Thank you Patrick for the comments:)

The question on networking and marketing:

The best ones I’ve found so far is Social Networking(Myspace, Facebook-not as good, and interest specific networks-e.g. Imeem.com), social media(Flickr, YouTube, etc.) and mini blogging(Twitter).
I’m still new to networking and marketing so I can’t share a whole ton just yet. Basically, where ever there are a lot of people that share your interest–it’s a good place to market. Another one that pops up in the back of my mind is list building, one simple yet powerful tool, something I might have neglected also.

    The second question:

That image pop-up effect is used by WordPress, I think it just comes with the template I chose(not sure about others). I found it really cool also.
The Blogger and WP icons I just found on the web added to my post. I just added the “vs.” between the two tags. It’s pretty simple, I love the way WordPress handles content. But it also depends on the template your using.

I like the way you said it: “I like the fact that it is not noisy, the focus is on the writing, and less distracting. ”

    – I totally agree!:) It does a great job up front, It does a great job in the back-end also.

    Hope I answered your questions:)

Thanks for looking over my blog and and thanks again for commenting!

  5. Good comparison..
Just an addition – Most of the wordpress premium themes have been already converted to blogger compatible xml template.
With Google’s Acquisition of Feedburner,Detailed stas are also available for Blogger (I agree its nothin like Tabular stats)
You can create pages in Blogger (in fact each post in blogger is a new page), You just need to place its permalink in a place to make it look lik a page link.
Moreover,SEO in blogger is much easy.

  6. Hi Tarunreflex,
Thanks for the comment and opinions. What I meant by “pages” was besides posts(for example the about me page and more can be added). I’ve actually worked on a site were the CMS was WordPress because of this feature.

I have to say themes for Blogger look really spiffy. I use blogger for a few blogs and it works pretty good. I have some issues with the content editor though, but besides that it’s a great blogging software.

Something I like about Blogger is their variety of Widgets/Gadgets.

I’m not so sure about Bloggers SEO, I guess it should be better since Google owns it. Most of my WordPress posts get indexed pretty fast.

I just like WordPress better, seems to be a more active community even though it’s probably not as large as Blogger’s.

    -Have a great day
